Ever Hear THIS? (“‘Just’ Violated?”)

“The Truth shall set you free.”

John 8:32

Entitlement and Minimization go hand in hand when it comes to violation/trauma.

Let’s face it; no one wants to deal with ugly truth.

No one wants to deal with pain.

People, therefore, out of desire to avoid these things, often strategize their coping mechanisms through entitlement and minimization.

The belief… the lie?

“I shouldn’t have to deal with this, so I won’t. I should be able to avoid this, no matter what.”

Therefore, things get neglected, mishandled, and further harm surfaces.

Whether people know it or not.

(“‘Just’ Violated?” Book Excerpt):

…Entitlement and Minimization.

They often go hand in hand.

And here, unfortunately, can be some of where we experience statements and questions, like

“Can’t you just get over it?”

“Don’t be a victim.”

“You’re making too big of a deal about this.”

And even, painfully, from a Christian faith perspective…

“It’s all under The Blood, anyway.”

Damaging. Shaming.

Heaping still more punishment, rejection, and burden on someone who, in one way or another, has been “violated.”

Abuse. Violence. Rape.

It’s all under the heading of violation.

“Just not that bad?”

“Just overreacting?”

Not quite, for those of us in the grey, isolating, and minimizing reality.

There was nothing “just” about whatever it was. What we went through.

“Only or merely?”

No.

A person’s attempt to minimize, for whatever reason, cannot eradicate the pain.

And there was so much pain. How do we explain that?...

What was it that I was born into? What was it that I endured?

What WAS I “a product of?”

Rape? Abuse? Violence?
